Dr. Stephan Weißleder

Hi, my name is Stephan Weißleder. I'm a test automation specialist. Actually, I care about many more aspects of quality assurance, but test automation seems to be the one that requires most attention. There are several ways to handle the testing task. I prefer two ways: Doing it manually, but well educated, or doing it automatically. As a member of the German Testing Board, I care about test education. The number of certified testers in Germany and also world-wide shows that this part is widely accepted. Unfortunately, it is not that easy with test automation. The most important point is the question if the costs for preparing test automation are less than the costs for manual testing. Test automation can be the automation of test execution, but also the automation of test design. I am going to add some sections on this topic, soon.

Since the beginning of 2014, I work at the Thales Transportation Systems GmbH as a test manager. Before that, I worked as a research manager for testing at the Fraunhofer Institute FIRST and (after the merger with ISST and FOKUS) at the new Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS. From 2006 to 2009, I did my PhD about model-based testing at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This was probably the time when my interest for testing was born. I also like to publish articles, to give talks at a workshop or conference, or to organize similar events. This website contains further and more detailed information about my academic and industrial work.
